American still backing Briton to win Grand Slam titles

Andre Agassi maintains Andy Murray's Grand Slam breakthrough is just around the corner despite drawing a blank in 2009. The legendary American has been a fan of the Briton for some time and was expecting the 22-year-old to clinch his first major title this season. However, Murray is now the only player in the world's top five not to have a Grand Slam to his name despite this year being his best outside the big events, with a sixth title of the season coming in Valencia on Sunday. But Agassi has retained his faith in the Scot, insisting many big titles are there for the taking. "I think he'll win multiple grand slams," said the former world number one, who was Murray's childhood idol. "It's been my prediction for a while. "This year was disappointing for him. I know he was on the verge in a couple of grand slams with the hopes of doing it (winning). I think once he does one, the floodgates will open. He just needs to stay with it. "He's proved that he's a strong person. My advice? To keep getting better. Every day's an opportunity to get one day better. "He shouldn't get hung up on results. Results are a bi-product of your commitment and work ethic and not cutting a corner. "He has a self-inflicting tortured spirit about him when he's on the court and I think the last year and a half he's really learned how to use it." Murray now travels to Paris where he takes on American James Blake in the second round of the BNP Paribas Masters, before the season-ending ATP Tour Finals in London later this month.
