West Brom sign Bakary Sako until end of the season

West Brom have signed former Crystal Palace midfielder Bakary Sako on a season-long contract.

West Brom have signed free agent Bakary Sako until the end of the season following the expiry of his Crystal Palace contract.

The 30-year old midfielder was made a free agent this summer after turning down a new deal with the London club.

Sako joined Palace in 2015 following a promising three-year spell at Wolves.

Moving up to the Premier League, he enjoyed success under former manager Roy Hodgson, scoring six goals in 19 appearances for Palace last season before sustaining an ankle fracture in February.

The Mali international has been on trial with West Brom, but Baggies manager Darren Moore wanted to be sure of his fitness before offering him a short-term deal.

Speaking to the club's website, Sako said it was the "passion" of Moore that led him choosing The Hawthorns as his new home.

"He played a big part," said Sako. "A lot of Premier League clubs wanted me but as soon as I knew Darren wanted to see me I went to see him straight away and we clicked.

"He brings great experience and adds greatly to our goal threat across a range of positions. We're delighted to get him," said Moore.

"He brings competition to the group and a know-how of this division. He's been a credit to himself while he's been training with us and I can vouch for the fact that the way he has committed to us has been exceptional."
