Factfile

Birth date: December 7, 1990
Birth place: Watford, Hertfordshire
Amateur club: South Oxhey
Pro debut: May 28, 2015 v Joe Beeden (Won TKO 1)

When did you start boxing?

I was about 15. I only got into it for fitness reasons and was there for two years. I had no junior bouts and was 17 when I had my first fight. My trainer asked me if I'd fight and I said I would if he thought I was good enough.

Were you taking football seriously before then?

I wouldn't say seriously but I used to play a year above myself for a local team. They grew a lot quicker than me so I got dropped because I was too small! So I left and went to boxing.

Did you know you could punch from a young age?

I still don't think I'm the biggest puncher! It's a natural thing - I wasn't fighting every day or anything.

Are you planning to be more of a boxer or a fighter?

Ricky Hatton

A bit of both hopefully but I have a tendency to get stuck in. I look up to people like Ricky Hatton. His style is having a tear-up and I'm that way inclined. I've got skills if I need to use them but normally I go out there with the intent of getting them out.

Best shot?

I'm right-handed but I'd say my left hook.

So who's your favourite boxer of all time?

Nigel Benn

There was Nigel Benn and Hatton. I just want to be involved in a fight like Diego Corrales v Jose Luis Castillo, or Arturo Gatti v Mickey Ward. When I started my career I thought that if I can be involved in a legendary fight like that, I'll be happy.

So which weight do you see yourself at in the future?

I think I'll stay at featherweight. Nine stone is good for me. It's comfortable for me so that'll be the division I'm aiming at.

Who's the best featherweight in the world right now?

Lee Selby is class. He's got some serious skills. He knows how to box. Evgeny Gradovich had a similar style to me and Selby managed him easily so I'm trying to find a middle ground.

You've got Nicholas Walters, who is such a big puncher, but he might move up because he didn't make the weight last time. Obviously, Lee Selby is class. He's got some serious skills. He knows how to box. Evgeny Gradovich had a similar style to me and Selby managed him easily so I'm trying to find a middle ground.

Where do you see yourself in two years?

I'd like to be up in the mix for the British title by that stage, to be honest. I want to go the traditional route of the British, Commonwealth and European titles if I can.

Best moment in the sport so far?

I'll never forget winning the ABA title for the second year in a row. I beat Jack Daniel in Sunderland. I just remember the whole night - we went out all night and it was just great. My pro debut at York Hall was the best atmosphere but that second ABA title is my fondest memory.

Who's your football team?

Watford, of course.

What's been the fight of the year so far this year?

I went to Floyd Mayweather Jr v Manny Pacquiao but didn't think it was the greatest of fights. Jorge Linares v Kevin Mitchell was a good tear-up and so was Vasyl Lomachenko v Gamalier Rodriguez.

Favourite commentator?

I'll go with Ed Robinson. He puts his opinion out there and isn't afraid, so I'll go with him.

Dream girlfriend?

Michelle Keegan.
