Joshua vs Whyte: Dereck Chisora replaces Josh Warrington on Saturday's O2 bill
Thursday 10 December 2015 13:46, UK
Dereck Chisora has been added to Saturday's O2 bill as a replacement for Josh Warrington, who has a virus.
Warrington (22-0-KO4) had been due to face Jorge Sanchez but that bout will now be replaced by former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Chisora (23-5-15), who will be back in the ring against an as-yet-unnamed opponent just a week after his last fight.
Since losing out on the vacant British title to now-world champion Tyson Fury just over a year ago, Chisora has strung together a trio of victories - outpointing Marcelo Luiz Nascimento in between stopping Beka Lobjanidze and most recently, Peter Erdos.
Chisora told Sky Sports News HQ: "It's a big bill. Anthony Joshua v Dillian Whyte, Kevin Mitchell and loads more. it's going to be amazing for boxing."
The Londoner recently linked-up with Sauerland Promotion and marked his debut with a fifth-round stoppage of Erdos in Hamburg last Saturday.
"My weight is great, everything was good for me," said Chisora. "A new start in Germany, a new team and I'm feeling great right now.
"The Sauerlands have arranged another fight for me at The O2. That's what you want to do as a fighter, stay active. I'm ready to go."
Chisora's presence provides an interesting sub-plot to the headline bout, which sees his fellow Londoners Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte battle it out for the British and Commonwealth titles Chisora hopes to regain.
The sold-out event also sees Chris Eubank Jr face Gary O'Sullivan in a WBA middleweight eliminator, Kevin Mitchell bid to become WBA lightweight mandatory against Ismael Barroso, Tony Bellew taking on Mateusz Masternak for the European cruiserweight title, Luke Campbell and Paulie Malignaggi also in action.
Former world champion Malignaggi will now face Antonio Moscatiello for the EU welterweight title following the withdrawal of Gianluca Branco.
