Floyd Mayweather has renewed hostilities with his former protege Adrien Broner over a video posted online.

Mayweather, who is promoting British fighter Ashley Theophane in his bid to relieve Broner of the WBA 'Super' super-lightweight title on April 1, took umbrage at a recent clip showing Broner throwing money in the air at a Walmart.

'Money' told Fighthype.com: "Someone showed me the clip of Adrien Broner the other day. He was in Walmart and what was so crazy about the video was when I looked at it, it kind of hurt my feelings.

"The person gave him his change back, I guess he had bought something and he threw the money or the change up in the air like: 'Why are you giving me my change back? You don't know who I am?'

If you're at such a high status and you reached a certain level, you're supposed to have people going to Walmart for you.

"Actually, a lot of people in the store didn't know who he was. They were looking like: 'Who are you?'

"If you're at such a high status and you reached a certain level, you're supposed to have people going to Walmart for you. You go to places like Walmart to save money. Of course you've got to realise this. He's still young and still learning but before you know it, it's going to be too late.

"I didn't really understand it. At the end of the day, he's hurting himself. He's not helping himself. He has a lot to learn. By the time I was his age, I was a much bigger star, I fought a lot better competition than he's fought, you know. Not knocking him, you know, because he can only fight who they put in front of him.

Ashley Theophane with a warning for Broner

"I mean, his two biggest fights were against Shawn Porter and Marcos Maidana and he came up short. I think he won a world title like, what they say, three or four times. I know he won one against Paulie Malignaggi but I don't know who else he won a title from."

Broner (31-2-KO23) was quick to post a video response on social media, accusing his one-time mentor of hypocrisy.

"C'mon bro', you're 39. So you were 34, 35 when you [were] burning money in the club and I didn't say anything about that. That motivated me that one day I would have enough money to throw some change at Walmart.

"I didn't think that would ruffle your feathers bro'. C'mon stop talking bad about me bro'."

Mayweather called time on an unbeaten career in September 2015 when he comfortably outpointed Andre Berto to move to 49-0-KO26.
