Danny Garcia says he would 'dethrone' Floyd Mayweather

Danny Garcia says he would "dethrone" Floyd Mayweather if 'Money' makes a return to boxing.

The WBC world welterweight champion could be top of Mayweather's list after the 49-0 star hinted he would make a return to the ring to surpass the undefeated record shared with Rocky Marciano.

Garcia (32-0-KO18) has had no contact with the 'Money' camp, but having followed Mayweather throughout his career he is ready for the call and convinced he can become the first challenger to emerge victorious.

Floyd Mayweather Jr outlines his plans for 2016

"I haven't heard anything yet," Garcia told Sky Sports in an exclusive interview.

"I've seen it in social media, but as far as me talking to anyone about fighting Floyd Mayweather? I didn't hear about it yet - or it hasn't reached me yet.

"But I want it. I am a great fighter, I believe in myself physically and mentally and I think I will beat anyone who steps in the ring with me.

"It would be a dream come true and a fight I would love to see happen. That's what we want to do. There will be a new king in there and I am looking forward to getting in there and getting the job done."

Garcia currently holds the WBC title that belonged to Mayweather until his September retirement. In January he beat Robert Guerrero - who along with Zab Judah lost to them both - with 'Money' watching from ringside.

The 28-year-old is now a two-weight world champion and made his second professional appearance on the undercard of Mayweather and Ricky Hatton in December 2007.

"I was sitting in the crowd, in the nosebleed seats - and I remember seeing a lot of fights going crazy and I remember thinking 'I've got a long way to go!'.

"Now six or seven years later people are talking about me fighting Floyd Mayweather. I have been following him through my career and I feel I have the tools to go out there and dethrone him."
