Charlie Edwards will challenge Johnriel Casimero for the IBF world flyweight title on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin vs Kell Brook on September 10.

The 23-year-old from Surrey has had only seven fights as a professional (7-0-KO3) but is confident of relieving Filipino Casemiro (22-3-KO14) of the crown when the pair meet at The O2.

"Many people may think this is too early but believe me when I say this, that IBF world title is coming home with me," said Edwards, who is scheduled to fight in Berlin on Saturday.

"People underestimate my engine. Halfway through the fight, when he's behind, he will not be catching up.

"I didn't turn pro to knock over journeymen. I'm in this game to take over the lighter weight divisions. The team behind me at MGM know I am more than ready for this and I would like to thank them, Eddie and Barry Hearn for giving me this chance - I won't let anybody down."

I'm delighted to provide this opportunity for Charlie. I believe Britain will have yet another world champion that night.
Eddie Hearn

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn said: "This is a huge gamble for Charlie at this stage in his career but him and the team feel very confident they can beat Casimero.

"At flyweight, there is only so much experience you can gain and this is a huge opportunity for him to become world champion on home soil in what will be just his ninth fight.

"September 10 is the biggest night in world boxing so far in 2016 and I'm delighted to provide this opportunity for Charlie. I believe Britain will have yet another world champion that night."

Casimero won the IBF world light-flyweight belt in 2012 with a split-decision victory over Pedro Guevara and added the flyweight title in May when he stopped Amnat Ruenroeng in the fifth round of a rematch in Beijing.

A potentially landmark night for British boxing is headlined by Brook's audacious attempt to seize Golovkin's WBA 'Super', WBC and IBF world middleweight titles.
