Golovkin vs Brook: Eddie Hearn questions Golovkin condition
Thursday 8 September 2016 19:56, UK
Promoter Eddie Hearn claims Gennady Golovkin looks "drawn in the face" ahead of Saturday's world middleweight title clash with Kell Brook - live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The final press conference was a respectful affair between the fighters themselves but one barbed remark from Golovkin's trainer Abel Sanchez brought about the first signs of animosity between the camps.
Sanchez dubbed Brook's step-up from IBF world welterweight champion to middleweight as "a science experiment" but Hearn believes cracks are appearing in both the condition of the WBA Super, WBC and IBF champion and the confidence of his team.
Hearn told Sky Sports News HQ: "I'm going to throw this out there. I didn't think Gennady Golovkin looked that great. I thought he looked a little bit drawn in the face. They scuttled off after and didn't want to talk to any of the media.
"Maybe I'm clutching at straws but I'm going to clutch at them because we need to. We know the task. Everything has to go our way but as all week, Kell Brook is the calmest person involved in the fight and that gives me confidence."
Sanchez' contribution to the conference was short and sweet, warning that Brook would "brutally discover it takes more than a 10-week science experiment to topple Gennady Golovkin."
"I was quite surprised from Abel," Hearn added. "I don't know whether the pressure's getting to them a little bit.
"They feel invincible as a team. They feel they can just rock up to these cities, go out, knock people out, collect the money and off they go. I don't think it's going to play out like that.
"I think they know now it's serious. I think when the fight was first made they thought it was going to be an easy knock-over job. Now they know they're in a real fight."
