Kell Brook will undergo surgery on a broken eye socket on Monday in Sheffield, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed.
Brook, the reigning IBF welterweight champion, was taken to hospital with the injury after failing in his quest to dethrone WBA 'Super', IBF and WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin at The O2 on Saturday.
The 30-year-old's dream of becoming a two-weight world champion ended in the fifth round when trainer Dominic Ingle threw in the towel following a barrage of unanswered punches from Golovkin.
Brook was taken to hospital following the first defeat of his career where doctors confirmed he had suffered a broken right eye socket.
"Thanks for the messages, Special K Brook now left hospital - confirmed broken eye socket op on Monday in Sheffield," Hearn tweeted from his official Twitter account.
Brook told Sky Sports News HQ: "They [the doctors] have said I have to have an operation, but I need to wait until the swelling goes down.
"I have broken the eye socket, but they are saying I will make a full recovery."
Brook, who challenged the winner of next Saturday's world light-middleweight title fight between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Liam Smith, added: "I think it was so easy making middleweight and I filled out to the weight, but I believe my weight and strengths are going to be at 154lbs, light-middleweight.
"I think I'll be unstoppable at that weight and I am looking at the Canelo and Smith fight next week, I would love the winner."
