WBC International featherweight champion Josh Warrington has parted ways with the Matchroom Boxing stable.

The promoters chose not to renew the 26-year-old's contract which expired last month.

In a statement, Matchroom managing director Eddie Hearn said: "Following the expiry of our contract in November we were asked to make a new offer to Josh.

"We did not share the same plans as his team and decided not to make any further offers.

"It has been great working with Josh and his support from the Leeds fans has been exceptional. We wish him and his team all the success in the future."

Warrington, a Leeds United fan who enters the ring to the club's anthem 'Marching On Together', won the vacant WBC International featherweight title with a unanimous points decision over Filipino Dennis Tubieron in April last year.

He has since taken his pro record to 24-0 with successful defences against Aussie Joel Brunker, Hisashi Amagasa of Japan and Ireland's Patrick Hyland, all at the First Direct Arena in his home town.
