Joshua vs Molina: Hosea Burton and Frank Buglioni exchange verbal blows at presser
Wednesday 7 December 2016 14:54, UK
Hosea Burton and Frank Buglioni were embroiled in a heated verbal exchange at Wednesday's press conference ahead of their British light-heavyweight title showdown.
Buglioni, a former world title challenger, will challenge for the unbeaten Burton's British belt as part of a stacked undercard to Anthony Joshua's IBF world title fight with Eric Molina, to be shown live on Sky Sports Box Office.
While Burton questioned his opponents ability, Buglioni - who has recently made the move up to light-heavyweight - claimed that he saw his unbeaten foe quit in the amateurs.
Speaking at the press conference, Buglioni said: "This is what I love, I love boxing, every part of it, this is a great opportunity to go in there and put my skills to the test. I'm very confident at light heavy.
"This is my second fight at light heavy so I am the unknown but I certainly won't be after this fight. I've seen him quit when I almost knocked him out in the amateurs, and at the GB trials I got in the squad, while you made excuses.
Burton quickly hit back, saying: "I can't wait for this fight, he pulled out with five weeks to go last time with a tiny nick, every time he has been stepped up, he has been beat. Markham would have beat you if you wasn't a ticket seller, that's the only reason you got the win in that fight.
"I give the fight a couple of rounds, if he boxes he will get knocked out, if he fights he gets stopped. Either way he gets knocked sparked out."
Scott Quigg was also in confident and grateful mood ahead of his first fight at the featherweight limit against Jose Cayetano.
The Bury star said: "I don't like to use the word depressed, but I was really down after the Frampton loss. I got fat and had to be pulled out of bed every morning, but now I'm delighted to finally be back doing what I love.
"Cayetano is a good fighter and he's a threat, he is coming off the biggest win of his career so ca not be taken lightly."
Elsewhere, Callum Smith is one victory away from getting a dream world title shot and the Liverpool super-middleweight knows that he cannot afford to slip up as he defends his British title against Luke Blackledge.
"I believe I can be a world champion next year and if that's the case I need to look good and put in a performance on Saturday night," Smith said.
