Derry Mathews says Ohara Davies will "run away" if their grudge fight goes ahead this year.
The British rivals have been trading insults on Twitter and could settle their social media feud in the coming months, with Mathews happy to move up to super-lightweight to face Davies.
With 11 knockouts in 14 wins, the unbeaten Davies has vowed to settle their differences with another explosive victory, but Mathews insists the 24-year-old will go into survival mode once they start trading punches.
"I think once he felt the power of me, he would run away," said the Liverpudlian. "He would feel how hard I hit and I think he wouldn't come near me, if I'm honest.
"He's saying all this stuff on social media - it wouldn't last so many rounds, blah, blah, blah. I'm here to fight, so if they want to get it on, they know what they've got to do. Speak to my manager."
Davies boosted his position in the rankings by collecting the WBC 'silver' title with a shutout points win over Andrea Scarpa in November.
But the vastly experienced Mathews holds victories over the likes of former world champion Anthony Crolla and Tommy Coyle during his 51-fight career, and believes he is too much of a step-up in class for Davies.
"He won the fight, there is no knocking that, he's the WBC silver champion," said Mathews, a former world title challenger.
"He gets lot of respect from me for getting in the ring, but the way he's been carrying on with social media, it's bad.
"He beat Scarpa and I don't think he had a good night. I thought he was terrible. If he turns up like that against me, he will be in deep waters.
"They are all having a go. I think he's trying to raise his profile. The cast of TOWIE are having a tweet at me, having a go at me. If they want the fight, they know what they've got to do, it's not hard."
