Luke Campbell wants to stay on course for a world title shot with an emphatic victory over Jairo Lopez in his homecoming fight.
The 29-year-old hopes victory over Lopez can edge him closer to the lightweight champions when he fights in front of his home fans at Hull Ice Arena on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.
But Campbell has already been forced to rebuild after his sole points defeat to Yvan Mendy and is treating Lopez with respect.
"Lopez is a tough, strong Mexican who can punch, can box and fight," he told Sky Sports.
"It's been ages since I boxed back in Hull, so I am excited to be back putting on another good show. For me it's that next stepping stone now.
"Everything depends on my performance and the plan is this year to hopefully fight for a world title.
"For me I have to go in there and perform and show everybody this is the next stage, and that I am going to world level and I can be a world champion.
"He is just another guy that's in my way, so I have to perform, get a good victory."
It is Campbell's first outing in his hometown since his 10th round stoppage win over local rival Tommy Coyle in August 2015.
At the top of the bill, Gavin McDonnell battles Rey Vargas for the vacant WBC super-bantamweight title, and Campbell is fully aware of the threat posed by the Mexican after defeating him in the amateur ranks.
"I am excited to see McDonnell in that fight," he said.
"I haven't seen Vargas as a professional, but I remember him being very good as an amateur. He was tall, quick and strong and he gave me a tough fight.
"I know how good Vargas is and I know how good McDonnell is, so I know it's going to be a cracking fight."
Watch Luke Campbell vs Jairo Lopez from the Hull Arena, on Saturday, February 24, live on Sky Sports 2, from 8pm.
