Derry Mathews expects his hometown crowd to silence “gobby” Ohara Davies’ pre-fight jibes at Monday’s press conference.
Mathews (38-11-2) will welcome Davies (14-0) to Liverpool before trying to end his unbeaten record next Saturday, live on Sky Sports Box Office, on the undercard to David Haye vs Tony Bellew.
"He's walking around London looking for Scousers but now he's got the chance to come to Liverpool, so let's see how big his mouth is," Mathews told Sky Sports before coming face-to-face with Davies on Monday.
"I hope they boo him, I hope they give him a terrible time. I hope they turn up in their thousands, give us the reception we deserve, and shut these Cockneys up.
"I'm expecting him to be a bit gobby off-stage, then the Liverpool crowd will silence him. He realises that he's dug himself into a hole and he can't get out."
Asked if he expects any pre-fight shenanigans from London's Davies, Mathews said: "I hope so because I'll tie him up in knots. I've got a feeling he'll be nice and quiet.
"The talk has stopped. I've seen him put lots of tweets up but suddenly he's stopped. My friends said he's taken tweets down. He's trying to build himself up, walking around with The Only Way Is Essex crew."
