Dillian Whyte opportunity would interest Gerald Washington

Gerald Washington

Gerald Washington has offered to fill an "enticing" vacancy to fight Dillian Whyte in London.

Whyte revealed on social media that he will headline at The O2 on June 3, but is still seeking an opponent for a fight that he hopes will act as an eliminator for a world heavyweight title.

Former title challenger Washington insisted he would travel to Whyte's home city, exclusively telling Sky Sports: "If it gets me to where I want to go, then I'm willing to do anything.

He's the same as me - we're learning on the job.

"I want a tough fight that will propel me back into a world title fight, that's my goal.

"Dillian is a scrapper that likes to fight, and he's a great fighter. He's a tough guy that had a good fight with Anthony Joshua. But he's the same as me - we're learning on the job."

Highlights of Gerald Washington's defeat to Deontay Wilder

California's Washington suffered his first professional defeat against Deontay Wilder last time out in a failed bid to claim the WBC title, but has responded by immersing himself in Wladimir Klitschko's training camp - a facility that Whyte has also previously used.

"I don't have all the amateur experience so that's why [training with Klitschko] is so important," Washington said.

"Right now, I want to improve my game and get better because I don't want to get back in the ring without anything. I want all my tools to be sharpened, and ready to go."

Asked if the opportunity to make his UK debut as the main-event was appealing, Washington said: "That's very enticing. As long as it helps me to get back to where I want to be, I'm all for it."
