Mayweather vs McGregor: Saul Alvarez leaves door open for fight with Conor McGregor

Floyd Mayweather, Saul Alvarez

Saul Alvarez believes it will be a "miracle" if Conor McGregor beats Floyd Mayweather but didn't rule out the possibility of stepping into the ring with the UFC star.

The Mexican was asked if he would challenge the eccentric MMA fighter in the ring if he were to pull off an unlikely victory against Mayweather, live on Sky Sports Box Office on August 26.

However, Alvarez, who suffered the only defeat of his career to the unbeaten Mayweather back in 2013, doesn't think McGregor has a chance of crossing codes to beat the five-weight world champion in Las Vegas.

"If that miracle happens, then it's a different conversation but I doubt it very much," Alvarez told secondsout.com.

The mass publicity that has followed the event has arguably overshadowed the build-up to Alvarez's highly-anticipated Middleweight showdown with Gennady Golovkin in Las Vegas on September 16.

And, once Alvarez was quizzed about the Mayweather vs McGregor clash, his promoter Oscar De La Hoya was quick to jump in and turn the attention back towards his fighter's upcoming bout.

De La Hoya, though, steadfastly believes that although the cross-codes fight may be occupying the headlines, the real boxing purists will be watching the real super fight come September 16.
