Ricky Burns believes Floyd Mayweather will be too clever on route to a commanding victory against Conor McGregor in their August 26 blockbuster fight, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The former three-weight world champion, who battles Anthony Crolla in a huge domestic showdown at the Manchester Arena on October 7, is confident Mayweather will be victorious but is wary of McGregor's unorthodox abilities.
"It's certainly got people talking," Burns told Sky Sports News when asked about the cross-sport showdown.
"I just don't see how he is going to get by Mayweather.
"He's [Mayweather] one of the best fighters out there. If you look at the guys that Mayweather has fought, hardly any of them could lay a glove on him."
McGregor makes his professional boxing debut in the eagerly-anticipated event at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena, and Burns feels his only chance of victory will come through his unorthodox style.
Mayweather is bidding to move to 50-0 with a win, a feat which will break Rocky Marciano's undefeated record, but the former WBA super-light champion admits he's aware of the Irishman's unconventional style.
"He's [McGregor] going to be unorthodox and that is the thing he's going to have going for him," Burns added.
"When you're in there sparring with guys like that, you tend to get hit with awkward punches and they throw punches from different angles. But I think Mayweather will be too clever and too switched on.
"Like I said, he's one of the best fighters out there. I think he'll cope well and get the job done."
