Sam Eggington would relish a "huge" opportunity to fight in America if he continues to climb the welterweight rankings with a successful European title defence.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that American television network HBO have expressed an interest in Eggington, who believes his aggressive approach would entertain the US audience.

"I wouldn't even say a dream, because I would have never thought that would have happened," Eggington told Sky Sports.

People always say, if you were in America, people would love you. I feel like I've got a style that people enjoy anyway - everyone likes to see a tear-up.

"It just didn't come into my brain at the start. The fact that it could happen and I could go and box over in the States would be huge.

"If I get the chance to go over there and do what I do, I would be over the moon."

Hearn believes that Eggington could be in the opposite corner for a big name fighter in the States, although he wants the 23-year-old to gain more preparation before challenging a world champion.

"People are starting to take note of Sam Eggington. People are starting to understand that every time he steps into the ring, he gives you value for money," said Hearn.

"I was in New York yesterday. HBO were saying to me 'I like this Eggington guy, he's a warrior.' They are actually taking note, but they are looking at him at the moment as a good opponent.

"I don't want him to be an opponent for someone. We need to build him into a position where he is good enough to go on and win world titles."

Eggington who was recently named as The Boxing Writers' Club's 'Young Boxer of the Year', insists he deserves the opportunity to test himself at world title level.

"No-one can argue the facts," he said. "I've fought my way to every title. I've had to be mandatory, I've been given nothing.

"I've fought my way to the European and I want to defend it on Saturday. From there, there is no other route. There is only one way to go and that is a world title shot."
