Joshua vs Takam: Frank Buglioni to defend belt against Craig 'Spider' Richards

Craig ‘Spider’ Richards will step in at short-notice to challenge for Frank Buglioni’s British title this weekend.

Buglioni was set to defend his light-heavyweight belt on the Cardiff undercard to Anthony Joshua vs Carlos Takam against Callum Johnson, who has now had to withdraw.

The opportunity will now go to Richards, who is unbeaten in 10 fights, and won a four-round bout last Saturday.

Earlier this month, Richards told Sky Sports: "I'm a massive puncher at light-heavyweight, which I'm not at super-middleweight. I'll bring a lot more excitement and entertainment."

The 26-year-old Londoner, Richards, has campaigned predominantly as a super-middleweight although last weekend's fight was contested at the heavier weight.

Richards' late-notice call-up for this weekend will be his first fight that is scheduled for 12 rounds.

Johnson, who withdrew on Monday, "was in hospital over the weekend" according to a tweet from promoter Eddie Hearn.
