Katie Taylor called out by Jessica McCaskill for first world title defence

Jessica McCaskill

Jessica McCaskill has called out world champion Katie Taylor and wants to take her on before the end of the year.

The American lightweight is happy to come to the UK, after Taylor won the WBA world title two weeks ago.

Promoter Eddie Hearn expects Taylor's first defence to be in December, with the 33-year-old known as 'CasKILLA' (5-1-KO3) looking to get a shot.

It would be a brilliant fight, both are technically excellent and love to trade. I'm hoping we can make it happen

"I've been after her for a while and I want it as soon as possible, before the end of the year," she exclusively told Sky Sports.

"I have no problem going over to the United Kingdom. I have been ready to travel outside of America for a while. It is difficult for me to get fights, because people just don't want to fight me.

"Taylor is a world champion and probably the one name over here that is supposed to want to fight anyone, so let's see.

"I am ready to fight. My power is something no one knows about, but you will see. I want to become the best in the world, not just America."

Taylor joined James DeGale and Anthony Joshua by adding a professional world title to her Olympic gold medal in Cardiff on October 28, with a unanimous points win over Anahi Sanchez.

The Bray fighter admitted that, despite flooring the previous WBA lightweight champion in the second round and dominating the 10 rounds, it was the toughest fight of her professional career, but McCaskill's trainer Rick Ramos believes there will be even more fireworks if the fight is secured.

"People might look at her record so far but that doesn't tell you anything," he said.

"Her power is something you can't see until you get in the ring. We've been working on all sorts of things but the one thing I can tell you is she loves a fight.

"She's a street-fighter, but she has skills. She would be happily fight someone down an alleyway, too. I am confident about this one and I can see both of them going down. But I know she has a heart made of steel."

Taylor will have to wait for her professional debut in Ireland with Hearn aiming to bring her back to London in December, around six weeks since she was crowned world champion.
