Cardle sustained a tear in his quadriceps during his final sparring session before the fight and will now face the winner of Buckland v Dodd on November 7 as part of the Smith v Fielding undercard.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said: "It's poor luck for Scotty who was looking forward to the first defence of his British title but what a golden opportunity for Sean.

I am looking forward to making the winner against Scotty for the British title on our bumper 'Who's Fooling Who?' bill at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on November 7.

Dodd (9-1-KO2) had been due to face Michael Mooney on the night but will now seize his opportunity to try and secure a British title shot. The 31-year-old is sure to enjoy some vociferous support against the Welshman as he's from down the road in Birkenhead.
