Angelo Dundee reminiscing about Muhammad Ali in 2011

The passing of Muhammad Ali has sent waves of sadness through boxing, so let's hear from one of those closest to him.

Trainer Angelo Dundee first began training an 18-year-old Cassius Clay in 1960. Over the course of 21 years in the corner of 'The Greatest', Dundee was there as Ali covered himself in glory, titles and controversy.

An Italian-American, Dundee had served in World War II as a plane mechanic before learning cornerman skills from mentors such as Charlie Goldman, Ray Arcel and Chickie Ferrera. By 1955, he had helped Carmen Basilio to a world title.

He was then given charge of 'The Louisville Lip' and a rollercoaster journey began. Between 1960 and 1981, Dundee would be absent from Ali's corner for just two bouts - against Tunney Hunsaker in 1960 and Jimmy Ellis in 1971.
