South Africa equalled the third-highest score in one-day internationals as they beat India by 214 runs to win the five-match series.
The sides came into the final game in Mumbai tied at 2-2, but a one-sided contest ended in a thumping win for the tourists, who posted 438-4 before bowling out India for 224.
Three visiting batsmen - Quinton de Kock, Faf de Plessis and AB de Villiers - reached three figures as the South Africans matched their own record of scoring three individual hundreds in a single ODI innings.
De Villiers took just 61 balls to score 119 - his third century of the series - while De Kock's 109 was his fifth ton in nine innings against India.
Du Plessis, meanwhile, retired hurt with cramps having scored 133 and been put down twice, once on 45 and again on 85.
But it was de Villiers, scorer of cricket's fastest ODI ton, who stole the show as he cleared the rope 11 times in a typically-spectacular innings.
India seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar came in for particular stick on his way to figures of 1-106, the second most expensive in ODIs, and in reply the hosts lost their last eight wickets for 68 runs.
A third-wicket partnership of 112 between Shikhar Dhawan (60) and Ajinkya Rahane (87) briefly gave them hope of an unlikely run chase, but Dhawan was one of four Kagiso Rabada victims and wickets tumbled after his departure.
