Surrey all-rounder Zafar Ansari has signed a new three-year deal to cap a season that saw him called up by England.

The 23-year-old was named in England's Test squad for the trip to the United Arab Emirates to face Pakistan, but he was robbed of the chance to impress internationally when he suffered a nasty thumb injury playing for his county.

Ansari has been with Surrey since U9 level and graduated through their Academy system to become a vital squad member in all formats of the game.

Surrey will feature in LV= County Championship Division One next season after winning the Division Two title last month, and Ansari is keen to be involved in progressing the county further.

He said: "I have been at the club a long time now but have signed my new contract because I feel that at the moment, Surrey is a good side that is getting better.

"I am now at the stage in my career where I want to be at a club that offers the best chance of winning trophies, both now and in the future. With that in mind therefore, I was very happy to commit to this new deal."

Director of cricket Alec Stewart added: "Zafar has had another excellent season for Surrey in all formats with both the bat and the ball and fully deserved his England selections.
