England fought back in the final session on day one of the fourth Test, taking four wickets, but earlier hundreds for Stephen Cook (115) and Hashim Amla (109) meant it was still South Africa's day.

The Proteas reached 321-5 at stumps, with an unbroken 56-run stand between Temba Bavuma (32no) and Quinton de Kock (25no) helping negotiate the threat of the second new ball after England's impressive efforts to fight back into the contest post-tea.

Moeen Ali took 2-53, including the first wicket of Dean Elgar (20), who fell to another superb James Taylor catch at short leg, but South Africa would then dominate for large parts, with Cook and Amla putting on 202 for the second wicket.
