Chris Woakes celebrated his call-up to the England squad in style, taking 9-36 in a stunning spell as Warwickshire bowled Durham out for 190 at Edgbaston.

Having started the day on 273-8, Jeetan Patel and Chris Wright took Warwickshire past 300 in the morning session. However, Graham Onions had Patel caught to break their 52-run stand and bowled Wright soon after as the hosts were bowled out for 311, Andrew Umeed top-scoring with 101.

Durham openers Mark Stoneman and Keaton Jennings then put on 62 for the first wicket before Oliver Hannon-Dolby bowled the latter. Durham did advance to 92-1 but Woakes returned and they soon found themselves in trouble at 116-5.

The all-rounder bowled Stoneman (36) and Jack Burnham as well as taking the scalps of Scott Borthwick and Paul Collingwood but he was not done there. The five-for was completed as Michael Richardson nicked through to Tim Ambrose behind the stumps with Ryan Pringle, James Weighell, Brydon Carse and Barry McCarthy also succumbing to Woakes.

Warwickshire did not have it all their own way though as Onions then reduced them to 4-2 in the first over of their second innings before they closed on 15-2, a lead of 138.
