Essex retained top spot in the South Group of the Royal London One-Day Cup as they pulled off a thrilling run chase against Glamorgan.

The visitors posted 324-8 thanks to Colin Ingram's 107 and looked good for the points when Nick Browne's run out one short of his century left Essex needing 112 from 87 balls.

The required rate rose further after Ravi Bopara went for 59 from 52 balls, and the home side were staring at a second straight defeat with 55 needed off the final six overs.

But Ryan ten Doeschte (34 not out) received useful support from Ashar Zaid (13 from 6) before James Foster's 12-ball 26 saw Essex home with five balls to spare and kept them ahead of second-placed Somerset on run rate.

Somerset had earlier completed an impressive chase of their own, overhauling Middlesex's 296-9 with an over in the bank.

Peter Trego top-scored with 104, Lewis Gregory (69) and Roelof van der Merwe (41 off 25) also contributing.
