England opener Alex Hales has signed a two-year contract extension with Nottinghamshire.

The 27-year-old, who made his debut for the club in 2008, will remain at Trent Bridge until the end of the 2018 season.

Notts director of cricket Mick Newell told the club's official website: "It's always a boost when someone like Alex commits his future to the club because we want to keep our best players.

"He's a player our members and supporters love to watch because he scores heavily and does so in such an entertaining way.

"The runs he's scored in a Notts shirt down the years have created an opportunity for him in international cricket across all three formats, and he's working hard to try and secure that long into the future.

"We'll continue to support him in those ambitions and get great benefit from his batting when he is available to play for Nottinghamshire."
