Yorkshire's hopes of a third straight Specsavers County Championship title suffered a severe setback as Somerset bowled them out for 145 on day one at Headingley.

Jim Allenby (3-16) and Craig Overton (3-32) shared six wickets as Somerset skittled their hosts out inside 61.2 overs - Tim Bresnan top scoring with 38 not out.

Yorkshire were boosted by an early Jack Brooks (1-32) strike in reply - Tom Abell trapped lbw for a duck in the second over - but Marcus Trescothick (45no) and skipper Chris Rogers (58no) then put on an unbroken 107-run stand to see Somerset in complete control by stumps on 107-1.

Somerset are still in with an outside chance of claiming the Division One crown themselves, although Middlesex are Yorkshire's strongest challengers and they had a strong first day against Lancashire at Old Trafford.

Middlesex were 258-3 by the close of play following fifties for Sam Robson (77), Nick Gubbins (69) and Nick Compton (56).

Kyle Jarvis (2-54) bowled Compton in the final seven overs of play to slightly dampen the visitors' day, but Dawid Malan returns for day two on 49 not out and he is set to be the fourth of the top four to hit a half century.

At Emirates Riverside, Keaton Jennings went through to a double-hundred with the final ball of the day, with Durham reaching stumps on 393-3 after an enthralling first day's play against Surrey.

Jennings was the one mainstay of the Durham innings - his knock made the more remarkable by the fact that the next best score was the soon-to-leave Scott Borthwick's 38.

Mark Footitt impressed for Surrey with 4-88 while Stuart Meaker pitched in with 3-104, although he was expensive in his 22 overs.

Surrey let their hosts off the hook somewhat, having had them 232-7 at one stage before Jennings received strong lower-order support from Brydon Carse (32) and Mark Wood (28), while Graham Onions (7no) stuck around for 12 balls to allow Jennings to reach his double ton.
