A round-up of the action as England bid to beat India on day five of the first Test, in Rajkot

England came within four wickets of securing a remarkable first Test victory at Rajkot in the final session, only for India to hold out for a draw.

Click on the video above to see the best of the action from the fifth day, as India struggled to 172-6 after being set 310 to win.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid (3-63) was the pick of England's attack as the tourists searched for an unlikely final-day victory but there was no dislodging opposing skipper Virat Kohli, who stood firm as wickets tumbled around him to score an unbeaten 49.

Test Cricket: The Verdict

Earlier, Alastair Cook (130) hit a 30th Test hundred, and fifth in India, as England stretched their lead to 309 runs before declaring on 260-3.

Haseeb Hameed (82) fell short of a maiden Test century on debut, out caught and bowled when playing an expansive drive to Amit Mishra - though there was doubt as to whether it was a no-ball or not.

Hameed and Cook had stretched their partnership from 114 runs to 180 in the morning session, but the 19-year-old's dismissal was a signal of England's attacking intent, with Ben Stokes (29no) promoted up the order after Joe Root (4) too fell searching for quick runs, top-edging an attempted slog-sweep off Mishra.
