Highlights from the day two of the second Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh, as the visitors fight back in Christchurch.

Shakib Al Hasan took three late wickets as New Zealand struggled to 260-7 in reply to Bangladesh's 289 all out on day two of the second Test in Christchurch.

Tim Southee's five-wicket haul had seen the Tigers dismissed for a modest total on day one, and the hosts looked on course for a commanding lead as half-centuries from Tom Latham, Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls took them to 252-4.

However, Shakib ran through the middle-order with his left-arm spin before drizzle and bad light forced an early close with the Black Caps 29 behind with three wickets remaining.

Jeet Raval was dropped at second slip off Mehedi Hasan in the fourth over of the morning, but failed to capitalise on his reprieve as he fell for 16, dragging on a short delivery from Kamrul Islam Rabbi.

New Zealand captain Kane Williams fell second ball as he was caught behind for two, but Latham and Taylor then shared a 106-run stand for the third wicket.

Latham departed on 68, attempting to cut Taskin Ahmed and top-edging to wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan, and Taylor also failed to convert his fifty as he chipped Miraz to midwicket on 77.

Latham's runs came from 111 balls with 11 fours, while Taylor hit seven fours and two sixes in his 103-ball innings.

A partnership of 75 between Nicholls and Mitchell Santner put New Zealand back in control until the latter was trapped lbw by Shakib.

BJ Watling played an aggressive shot and chopped onto the stumps for one and Colin de Grandhomme was bowled attempting an expansive drive three balls later without troubling the scorers.

Shakib finished the day with 3-32 as Bangladesh look to claim a victory that would see them draw the series, having lost the opening Test in Wellington by seven wickets.
