England seamer Chris Jordan told Sky Sports' Ian Ward about his mind-set and plans while bowling in Twenty20 cricket

Chris Jordan has told Sky Sports that mental toughness and possessing variety are crucial traits for bowlers in Twenty20 cricket.

Jordan watched on TV in the England team room as New Zealand and Australia played out a Tri-Series run-fest in Auckland on Friday - Australia chasing down the Kiwis' 243-6 with seven balls to spare to complete a record T20I chase and keep England's hopes of reaching the final alive.

New Zealand's Ben Wheeler (0-64 from 3.1 overs) and Australia's Andrew Tye (2-64 from four overs) were two of the bowlers trounced at Eden Park as 488 runs were scored in 38.5 overs.

And ahead of England's must-win meeting with the Black Caps in Hamilton on Sunday - live on Sky Sports Cricket from 5.30am - seamer Jordan gave Sky Sports Cricket an insight into his mindset while bowling in the game's most explosive format.

"You have to understand that you will bowl some good balls that go for four and bad balls that get wickets," said Jordan, whose side must beat New Zealand and top the hosts' net run rate in order to play unbeaten Australia in the Tri-Series final in Auckland on Wednesday.

"That's just the nature of T20 cricket with the way batters are coming so hard. You have to be very mentally strong and stick to your strengths as much as possible. It revolves around execution then.

"[Bowling my best ball regardless of the batsman on strike] is my attitude more often than not. That's the ball you're more comfortable and confident with and have a high percentage of executing.

Jordan took a fantastic catch on the boundary to dismiss New Zealand's Colin de Grandhomme for a duck on Tuesday

"[But] I see myself as a versatile cricketer - it's about having as many tools in your arsenal so on any given day you can call on which one might be coming out the best or fitting for that surface.

"Batsmen are looking to get ahead of us so I'm looking to flip it back on them - it's all about being unpredictable and the bluff is sometimes the best option, especially for guys who are trying to read the field. You want to get ahead of them and control the over and, ultimately, your figures.

"The game is evolving all the time and we're in the nets working with some of the best hitters in the T20 game today, getting good feedback from then on our slower balls, yorkers and the disguise on them."
