England one-day captain Eoin Morgan will miss the start of Middlesex's season due to a fractured thumb, the club have announced.
The 31-year-old is set to be sidelined for at least four weeks after he was hit on his left thumb while batting in the nets last week.
Middlesex said in a statement: "Eoin was hit on the left thumb whilst batting in the nets at Merchant Taylors' School last Thursday and x-rays revealed that he suffered a small fracture. He will sadly be out of action for at least four weeks."
Morgan will join opening batsman Nick Gubbins in the treatment room.
Gubbins is not expected to be fully fit until the end of April after sustaining a grade two hamstring strain in the recent North-South series in the Caribbean.
"Nick continues to make excellent progress with his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury and we remain hopeful that he is on course for a full recovery towards the end of April," the club said.
Middlesex are hopeful England bowler Steven Finn will prove his fitness for the start of the campaign having suffered a minor knee ligament strain on Pakistan Super League duty.
The club added: "Steven twisted his right knee whilst away with his franchise at the Pakistan Super League.
"Scans revealed a minor ligament strain which is settling well, and we are hopeful that he will be available for selection for the opening County Championship match of the season."
