After all the optimism and hope of a new era for English cricket under new chief selector Ed Smith, the home side were given a swift reality check as Pakistan's bowlers exposed the frailties of the England top-order and then blew away the tail, in a manner that brought memories of the winter's Ashes defeat screaming back.

Unsurprisingly, Bob is not shy in letting his feelings on England's batting be known and he also expresses his astonishment that England opted not to bowl first on a green surface in overcast conditions, although Angus defends Root's decision.
