Former England player James Taylor discusses the heart condition that forced him to retire from cricket and how he has rebuilt his life

Former England batsman James Taylor is enjoying his new role as a national talent scout and media pundit, but says "every day is scary" as he continues to adjust to life with a serious heart condition.

Taylor was diagnosed with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) after feeling ill during Nottinghamshire's pre-season warm-up match against Cambridge University in April 2016.

At first, his main concern was being fit enough to play for England in their upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka but it soon became clear he was lucky simply to be alive.

Taylor's promising playing career may have been cut short at the age of 26 but he is establishing himself as a pundit with Sky Sports and was recently named as part of a new scouting network, along with Marcus Trescothick, Chris Read, Steve Rhodes, Richard Dawson and Glen Chapple.
