England v India: Highlights from day three of fourth Test at Ageas Bowl
Sunday 2 September 2018 08:40, UK
Jos Buttler and Joe Root starred as England battled hard to earn a 233-run lead over India on the third day of the fourth Test at the Ageas Bowl.
Buttler top-scored with a well crafted 69 off 122 balls, sharing half-century stands with Ben Stokes (30) and Sam Curran (37no) to help the hosts reach 260-8 at the close of play.
A promotion up the order for Moeen Ali, from No 7 to No 3, after Alastair Cook had edged Jasprit Bumrah to second slip, proved unsuccessful as he was caught in the cordon for just eight.
Batting at his preferred position of four, Root looked at ease throughout his innings before being run out two short of his half-century when Ben Stokes called for a quick single.
The Indian bowlers' struggles to get the ball to reverse and, in particular, for spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to hit the footholes, mean they face a tough chase if they are to draw level in the series.
