Former England Under 19 seamer makes county switch

Derbyshire have signed former Nottinghamshire seamer Mark Footitt for the 2010 season. The left-arm paceman, 23, played for England at Under 19 level but was released by Nottinghamshire at the end of last season after just nine first-class appearances. "This is a great opportunity for me to establish myself as a first-class cricketer and the first job is to work hard during the winter and through pre-season to earn a first team place," Footitt told Derbyshire's official website. "I am stepping into a new and exciting challenge and I am now determined to prove myself at my new club. "Hopefully that challenge can bring out the best in me. " Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris added: "Mark is the right age of cricketer for us and - although he has not played a lot of first-class cricket - he has been around a county cricket environment for some time and is, therefore, an experienced cricketer. "Having already served what I refer to as a cricketing apprenticeship at Nottinghamshire - now he has the opportunity to join Derbyshire and show us what he is about."

Sadler deal

Meanwhile, batsman John Sadler has inked a new one-year deal with Derbyshire. The 27-year-old's main role will be as captain of the second XI, although he is also expected to challenge for a place in the one-day side. "It is important that we have continuity," Morris said. "Having John primarily captaining the second team will help us continue to bring on our younger players."
