Derbyshire batsman Neil Broom has left the club after being recalled by New Zealand for their upcoming one-day international series against Bangladesh.

The 33-year-old was 12 months into a two-year deal at the 3aaa County Ground, but has been released after being called up by the Black Caps for the first time since 2013.

Broom's solitary year at Derby saw him return a modest 530 first-class runs at an average of 25.

As a British passport holder, Broom signed as a non-overseas player and therefore would have been ineligible to play international cricket again while under contract.

Broom said: "I appreciate everything Derbyshire have done for me and I really enjoyed my time with the club.

"It was a difficult decision, but at the end of the day I couldn't pass up the opportunity to represent New Zealand and am excited about the opportunity to play international cricket again."
