Kevin Pietersen is confident England will impress on their United Arab Emirates tour as long as the batsmen cope with the Pakistan spinners.

Fresh from their Ashes triumph on home soil, Alastair Cook's men face a tricky trip for a three-Test series against a team who have not lost a 'home game' since playing their matches outside of Pakistan in 2009.

The hosts will have happy memories from 2012 when they conquered England 3-0 and it is a series Pietersen remembers only too well.

The 35-year-old, who played for England between 2005-2014, told Sky Sports News HQ: "England will take a lot of confidence after beating Australia and fingers crossed they do a lot better than when we were in UAE. I think I averaged 11 in that series which was rubbish.

"We got hammered there last time we went. We didn't play spin well. If the guys play spin well - and there are some really good players in that batting line-up - then hopefully they'll do well. I really want to see them do well."

Pietersen, who recently admitted that director of cricket Andrew Strauss had made the "right decision" not to recall him, is focusing his efforts on the shorter format of the game and will play for the Durban-based Dolphins in South Africa next month before featuring in the Pakistan Super League.

England will go up against Pakistan in the first Test on October 13 at Abu Dhabi's Zayed Cricket Stadium, with Tests at the Dubai Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Club following.

Asked what would constitute success for the England team, Pietersen added: "You have got to win, don't you? A draw or losing is no good.

"Winning away from home means a lot and we haven't travelled well for a while. I'm sure they will do well. Cooky will lead the side well and the management structure is pretty good."

New head coach Trevor Bayliss has also impressed Pietersen with his efforts described so far as "amazing".

On the new England set-up, Pietersen added: "The structure is brilliant. Paul Collingwood and Mahela Jayawardene have come in too which is brilliant. There's a lot of knowledge there and great men."

The Test series in the UAE will be followed by a four-match one-day international series and concludes with three international Twenty20 fixtures.

Pietersen will play with Ernie Els at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which is live on Sky Sports 4 from 1pm on Thursday.
