England seamer Stuart Broad moved to the top of the ICC Test bowling rankings thanks to his series-winning heroics in Johannesburg.
Broad took 6-17 in the second innings at the Wanderers to inspire England to a seven-wicket win and an unbeatable 2-0 series lead over South Africa, who were knocked off top spot in the Test team rankings by India as a result.
He is the first England bowler to top the Test rankings since Steve Harmison in 2004, with team-mate James Anderson only ever having reached No 2 - he is currently ranked fifth, 70 points adrift of Broad (880).
Broad overtakes India's Ravichandran Ashwin, while injured South Africa paceman Dale Steyn drops to third ahead of Pakistan's Yasir Shah, who is currently suspended after returning a positive test for a banned substance.
"We had a chat with the coaches and the bowling group and we talked about bringing the batsman forward a lot more and trying to get the edges from a fuller length," Broad said on Saturday after England's batsmen chased down only 74 to win the third Test..
"We got lucky today, we had some clouds and the lights were on so it was perfect conditions. We got the ball in good areas from both ends and took our catches.
"The wicket offered a little bit off the seam and in the air and for a six-foot-six bowler there is a bit of bounce there as well.
"I was feeling a little under the weather on the first day but fortunately the doctor got me over it pretty quickly. I fell into a trap in the first innings of probably bowling too short and getting carried away with the bounce."
Joe Root scored 110 runs in England's first innings and that effort was enough to lift him into second place in the Test batting rankings, behind only Australia captain Steve Smith.
Root moved above South Africa skipper AB de Villiers and New Zealand's Kane Williamson, but his 891 points leave him eight behind Smith.
Ben Stokes has moved up to sixth in the all-rounders ranking after a fine series with bat and ball, the list is still led by Ashwin.
