Alex Hales says he is under no illusions that his place in England's one-day team is under threat, despite his man-of-the-match performance in the record-breaking win over Australia at Trent Bridge.
England smashed a world-record 481-6 against Australia in the third ODI of the five-match series, and Hales top-scored with 147.
However, the 29-year-old was in the team because of Ben Stokes' hamstring injury, and he still feels he is below Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy - who scored 139 and 82 respectively in the same match - in the race to open the batting.
Hales said: "To get a score like that at my home ground and get the record score is one of the days I'll never forget in my life.
"(But) I don't think my situation has changed much since (before the match) in terms of those two guys being ahead of me.
"You've got Jonny, who's got four hundreds in (six) games - and Jason, when in form, is one of the best players in the world.
"I need to keep knocking on the door and scoring as many runs as I can. (This) was one step towards that."
Hales also acknowledged that, despite his good form, a player as important as Stokes is likely to return to the team regardless when he is fit.
"I think that's the situation I'm in", he said. "Every opportunity I get is going to be gold dust moving forward.
"Stokesy's obviously going to slot back in - he's one of the best all-rounders in the world. (So) I think it's three of us fighting for two spots currently."
