Trevor Bayliss believes it is time to move on from the Ben Stokes incident

England coach Trevor Bayliss says it is time to move on from Ben Stokes' controversial dismissal in the second one-day international against Australia as his side prepare for their latest meeting on Tuesday.

Stokes has insisted he did not wilfully seek to obstruct the field during England's 64-run defeat at Lord's on Saturday.

The all-rounder became only the second England player to be given out 'obstructing the field' when the hosts were chasing Australia's 309-7.

Mitchell Starc's second delivery of the 26th over was defended by Stokes stepping out of his crease. Starc, in his follow-through, aimed a throw at the stumps and the ball struck Stokes' arm as the Durham man turned to make his ground.

When asked if it was time the incident was put to bed, Bayliss said: "Definitely. I just thought it was two teams trying to win the match and playing with a bit of emotion. It's good to see a bit of emotion in a match.

"They argue one way, we argue the other, let's get on with it. We were a bit disappointed at the time but by the time we left everybody was in good spirits and looking forward to the next match."

Jos Buttler has been rested for the game, with Jonny Bairstow called up, and Bayliss said of the Yorkshire wicketkeeper: "He's been in form this year and deserves his opportunity. We're looking forward to what he can do for us on Tuesday.

"We haven't played to our potential in the two games. Australia have played well also and that makes it difficult to play our own game. There are areas we need to improve in and we are looking to turn it around."
