Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine have pulled out of the West Indies squad for the World Twenty20 in India in March.

However, officials insist that the withdrawals are not connected to the pay row which has engulfed the squad.

All-rounder Pollard has pulled out due to injury while Narine believes he is not fully prepared, due to the fact he is serving an international suspension for a suspect bowling action.

Carlos Brathwaite has been named as Pollard's replacement but no one has yet been selected to deputise for Narine.

A West Indies spokeswoman said: "Kieron Pollard withdrew from the squad citing a lack of sufficient progress in his rehabilitative work (suffered an injury in December) and hence won't be fit for tournament.

"Sunil Narine withdrew citing insufficient progress in the rehabilitative work on his bowling action. He is currently banned from bowling in international cricket."

Meanwhile, the players who are in the squad have been given until Sunday to sign their contracts for the tournament, captain Darren Sammy having written a letter to Cricinfo.com earlier this week saying the terms currently on offer are unacceptable.

The West Indies open the World T20 against England on March 16 in Mumbai, before further group games against Sri Lanka, South Africa and a qualifier.
