Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Amir has apologised to fans for his role in the spot-fixing scandal that saw him banned for cricket for more than four years.

The 23-year-old left-arm seamer returned to domestic cricket in March after being found guilty alongside Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif of bowling deliberate no balls at pre-arranged times in the Lord's Test against England in 2010.

His initial five-year ban was shortened by the ICC in January due to his co-operation with their anti-corruption and security unit and he will be eligible to play for Pakistan from next month.

Before the ban, Amir became the youngest player to take 50 wickets in Tests, claiming 51 scalps in 14 Tests at an average of 29.09, and he admits he is looking forward to putting the episode behind him.

"Over the last five years I have had time to reflect on my previous behaviour and I sincerely apologise to all my fans out there for letting them down," he said.

"However, I am ready to put this behind me and focus on my cricket. I still have a lot to give to cricket and am looking forward to resurrecting my international cricket presence.
