New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham will remain out of the Black Caps' second Test with India after missing the first Test in Kanpur with a rib injury.

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson confirmed the news on Wednesday, announcing that Neesham had failed to recover in time for the second test in Kolkata.

"Jimmy Neesham's injury will rule him out of at least this test," Hesson said.

"That takes away options in terms of changing our balance a bit. But that's okay. We are not able to get any replacement in time who is a batting all-rounder."

New Zealand have struggled with injuries throughout the tour with fast bowler Tim Southee already ruled out with an ankle injury and off-spinner Mark Craig now missing through a side strain sustained during the first test.

To make matter worse, Craig's replacement Jeetan Patel will not arrive to Kolkata until the day the day before Saturday's test after his his flight from England was cancelled.
