South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has appealed against his fine for ball-tampering in the second Test against Australia.
Du Plessis was charged by the International Cricket Council on Tuesday for "applying an artificial substance" during South Africa's innings victory in Hobart.
The Proteas captain was fined 100 per cent of his match fee but managed to put that controversy aside to score an unbeaten century in the first innings of the third Test in Adelaide on Thursday.
After the close of the play, Cricket South Africa chief executive Haroon Lorgat revealed Du Plessis had challenged his fine in a statement released on Thursday night.
"Faf has decided to appeal the match referee's decision after he and his legal team had studied the written reasons provided by the match referee," the statement read.
"In his mind, Faf is clear that he did not alter the condition of the ball nor did he intend to do so and that the match referee was not correct to find him guilty. He is understandably feeling aggrieved.
"CSA will support him to appeal the decision before an independent Judicial Commissioner as there are issues relating to fair and just process, interpretation of the rules, science and performance that needs to be considered."
Du Plessis produced a captain's performance in the third Test - scoring an unbeaten 118 as South Africa declared on 259-9.
That declaration left Australia with 12 overs to negotiate before the close of play which Australia's openers, Usman Khawaja and debutant Matt Renshaw, safely navigated to end the day on 14-0.
