Former captain Charlotte Edwards backs the decision to include Heather Knight and Sarah Taylor in England's squad for the Women's World Cup.

Former skipper Charlotte Edwards believes England have "as good a chance as anyone" of winning the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup.

Edwards was the last England skipper to lift the Women's World Cup after guiding the team a four-wicket win over New Zealand in Sydney in 2009.

Speaking at Lord's during an MCC Spirit of Cricket day for 500 schoolchildren, Edwards revealed her hope that England make it through to the July 23 final at the Home of Cricket - and come out victorious.

"England have got a huge chance I think," Chance to Shine ambassador Edwards told Tuesday's Sportswomen show on Sky Sports News HQ.

"They're preparing really well for this tournament and I'm sure they cannot wait for it to get underway now.

"I think they are more than ready. It's going to be one of the closest World Cups we've seen so far. I think England have got as good a chance as anyone and hopefully they will be here on the 23rd of July and lifting that trophy."

England' preparations for the tournament opener against India in Derby, live on Sky Sports on June 24, have been hampered by an injury to Heather Knight.

Knight suffered a metatarsal stress fracture to her left foot leading to fears she faces a race to be fit for the clash, but Edwards is confident the England captain will be ready for the match at the County Ground.

"I think she will be absolutely fine from the reports that I have seen," Edwards said.

"She is in the nets now and obviously her progress will be monitored over the next couple of weeks but it's a long tournament and they need Heather Knight taking charge of the team.

"I'm sure they'll take care of her but I think she'll be more than ready come the 24th of June."
