Team Sky duo Peter Kennaugh and Chris Froome stayed first and second overall at the Herald Sun Tour in Australia as Caleb Ewan sprinted to victory on stage two.

The trio were all part of a six-man breakaway that formed inside the last 10km and Ewan (Orica-GreenEdge) claimed a comfortable win ahead of runner-up Tanner Putt (UnitedHealthcare).

Kennaugh followed three seconds later in third place, while Froome was five seconds down in fourth.

Kennaugh picked up four bonus seconds for his result, which sees him stretch his lead at the top of the general classification over Froome from seven seconds to 13.

Jack Bobridge, who was fifth on the day, is now 31 second back in third overall.

Froome said: "It didn't go quite as planned today. We had expected a big bunch sprint, but it was a bit more selective than that.

"It was a good day all in all, though. The guys did a great job controlling things and we had Pete finish in third place, so we're happy with that."
