Mikel Landa finished third on the final stage of Vuelta a Burgos to secure overall victory for Team Sky.

Landa, who finished fourth overall at last month's Tour de France, had won two stages earlier in the week and only had to protect his 27 second lead on Saturday's closing stage.

And, as it transpired, the Spaniard was able to add to his lead on the closing climb of Lagunas de Neila as David de la Cruz was dropped in the latter stages.

Landa attacked soon after his team-mate Tao Geoghegan Hart was reeled in, the last man surviving from a breakaway group that developed early in the 136km race.

Only stage winner Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana) and Enric Mas (Quick-Step Floors) could go with him, Mas leaving his team-mate De La Cruz behind as he struggled on the steep ramps.

Lopez attacked again late in the stage to claim victory, coming home five seconds ahead of Mas, who moved into second spot overall ahead of De La Cruz, 40 seconds behind Landa.
