UK Sport is demanding answers from British Cycling over allegations of Team GB kit being sold for profit online.

A screengrab emailed to UK Sport appeared to show items of training kit, including a bike, up for sale.

More than £30m funding was earmarked for cycling in the run-up to this year's Olympic Games, and a statement from UK Sport made it clear any attempt to profit from that funding would not be tolerated.

It read: "UK Sport has asked British Cycling to investigate these allegations as a matter of urgency as it is vital we protect our investment in all sports on the World Class Programme.

"It is not appropriate to speculate or comment further until the investigation is complete."

Details of the email emerged at the end of a chaotic day for British Cycling after technical director Shane Sutton stood down amid allegations of discriminatory behaviour.
